Organic certification is essential because:

  • Compliance: If a product is altered in any way, the operation must be registered and certified to maintain organic integrity.
  • Consumer Assurance: The organic label acts like a trusted brand. Certification guarantees that products meet organic standards and are produced or processed by approved operators.
  • Transparency: Certification provides full traceability and assurance for consumers.

The Federation

  • Accreditation: The Federation is accredited by UKAS to ISO/IEC 17065:2012, which ensures our certification processes meet internationally recognized standards.
  • Standards: Our standards are clear and easy to read.
  • Our team: We will assist you in finding specific organic products or ingredients.

  • Processors: Any business that manufactures, alters, packs, or labels an organic product must be certified. This applies to any product or process that claims to be organic or uses the word “organic” in its ingredients list.
  • Producers: Farmers and growers must obtain certification for land, crops, and livestock.
  • Warehouse and Storage Operators: Certification is required for storing organic goods.
  • Traders: Businesses selling organic products business-to-business must be certified.
  • Retailers: Online sellers (e.g., via Amazon) need certification if they sell organic products.
  • Importers: Anyone importing organic products into the UK must be certified before starting operations.
  • Exporters: Those exporting organic products to the EU or third countries must also hold organic certification.

The Process is simple

  • Apply: Visit the Become a Member page to access the membership application page.
  • Select: Choose the application that matches your operation: Producer or Processor.
  • Fill and Submit: Complete the online form and click Submit.

  • Quotation: Once we receive your form, we may call to clarify details before issuing your quotation.
  • Final Step: After receiving your quotation, complete the Certification Agreement Form and return it with your deposit.
  • Audit: Our auditor will contact you to arrange a convenient date for your audit.

  • Unique: We offer an individual quotation system because every operator is unique.
  • No hidden charges: We do not charge based on turnover, for our standards, or for the use of our logo.
  • Tailored pricing: Each application is assessed on a case-by-case basis, and quotations are issued according to the work involved in the audit and certification process.

The Organic Food Federation is committed to maintaining the integrity of organic products. Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) are strictly prohibited under organic regulations. This means no genetically modified material can be included in any certified organic product.

  • GB-ORG-04 is the official designated code for the Organic Food Federation.
  • This code must be displayed on all organic goods that are manufactured, packaged, and labelled by operators certified by us.
  • Our logo demonstrates compliance with organic regulations and is widely recognized, look for it on supermarket shelves!
  • Certified operators may use our logo on their products and for marketing purposes.
  • Logo use is optional, but it can help consumers identify your products as certified organic.
